“Art is a journey of a free soul, a mind’s escape, a breathing of heart. It is a gift that keeps on giving. Every artwork is wrapped in a message. It is amazing how much word a simple image contains. It’s powerful, it’s moving”.
Wencyl Buenafe Mallari is an upcoming artist from Tarlac.
Born on October 5, 1987, she is the fourth child of Mrs. Corazon Mallari and Mr. Ambrocio Mallari who is also an artist. Growing up in a family of artists, it has been her nature to draw and paint at a young age. She started drawing at age nine doing charcoal portraits, landscapes, and still life. She was guided by her father who influenced her art. After graduating from high school, she spent a year studying painting using oil and trying different subjects. In 2004, she and her father Ambrocio were supported by DTI Central Luzon when it sponsored their exhibit in Intramuros, Manila. In the same year, she was discovered and featured by a local tv program “The Focus”.
In 2005, she studied in Tarlac State University (BS Architecture) and started joining art competitions.
In 2011, she and her father were requested by Theme Builders Philippines to join them on a design project at Donetsk, Ukraine to decorate interiors and to paint murals for Funtura Donetsk.
ABOUT HER ARTWOKS
Her painting skills were merely influenced by her father who is also an artist. At early age, she has been doing charcoal portraits, painting of still life, flowers and figures. She grew up in realism. Aside of her father, she also admires the work of classical artist like Leonardo Da Vinci, and landscape artist Jacob Philipp Hackert. She also admires classical figures of David Gray, and the hyper realism of Anna Haldin Maulle and local artists Orley Ypon and Jaime Gubaton.
For her “Art is a process of endless learning” so as she welcomes modern age she embraces challenges and attempt to create new style. From conservative realism, she is now into contemporary figurative painting using surrealism and symbolism. She explored the unconscious mind and creates art resulting in dreamlike realistic imagery. Her works tap into the dual mystic of nature and feminity. The pensive, realistic figures with lush flowers, corals and sea nature and undulating flourish that glows with inner light. These women are one with the natural world. She aims to feature women’s worth, essentials, strong, proud and elegant.
She believes that her artwork is an extension of her heart that comes from her deepest thoughts and emotions from learning’s of life. It is her soul and believes that it is somehow a little bit part of us all.
