Ambrocio “Ambo” Mallari, born in Concepcion, Tarlac on May 17, 1967. He was born to a farming family to parents Alejandro and Dorotea Mallari. Mallari is a self-taught artist who earned the comfortable career he is enjoying now. His art practice began when he was a teen, painting movie billboards in mid 70s in Manila with his uncle Perfecto Mercado. In 1975, he started painting fine art on canvas and in 1983, he worked in Israel with other Filipino artists, to create paintings on velvet cloth.
Mallari started drawing at an early age, and would bring art materials to the field on the days he tended the carabao. Through the decades of art-making, he has done diverse styles and genre of art: still life, landscapes. portraits and religious paintings. Recently, he had won some local and national art competitions.
His works were mostly exhibited in Pampanga and Manila galleries and his seascapes had reached galleries in Hawaii, USA. He also joined some exhibits organized by the Department of Trade and Industry. In 2011, he and his daughter Wencyl did design works in Donetsk, Ukraine when they were sent there by ThemeBuilders Philippines for design projects.
In August 2020, Mallari won the Grand Prize in the Artablado Nationwide Painting Competition. In the 4th Tarlac National Art Competition, his entry was awarded the Vice Governor’s Choice.
He currently lives and paints in Capas, Tarlac and continues to share his talent and skills with his eight children and extended family, some of them now professional artists.
